Smooth biproximity spaces and P-smooth quasi-proximity spaces

The notion of smooth biproximity space  where $delta_1,delta_2$ are gradation proximities defined by Ghanim et al. [10]. In this paper, we show every smooth biproximity space $(X,delta_1,delta_2)$ induces a supra smooth proximity space $delta_{12}$ finer than $delta_1$ and $delta_2$. We study the relationship between $(X,delta_{12})$ and the $FP^*$-separation axioms which had been introduced by...

Pullback of Varieties by Finite Maps

We study the local geometry of the pullback of a variety via a finite holomorphic map. In particular, we are looking for properties of V = F(W ) such that if V has the property A, then W must have the property A. We show that A can be the property of normality or prefactoriality. We also show that A can be the property of smoothness, under extra assumptions.

Cartan and Berwald Connections in the Pullback Formalism

Adopting the pullback approach to Finsler geometry, the aim of the present paper is to provide new intrinsic (coordinate-free) proofs of intrinsic versions of the existence and uniqueness theorems for the Cartan and Berwald connections on a Finsler manifold. To accomplish this, the notions of semispray and nonlinear connection associated with a given regular connection, in the pullback bundle, ...

Cobordisms and Reidemeister torsions of homotopy lens spaces

We show that any 3–dimensional homotopy lens space M that is simplehomotopy equivalent to a lens space L(p, q) is topologically s-cobordant to the lens space. It follows that M has the same multi-signature as L(p, q) and the action of π1(M) on the universal cover of M embeds in a free orthogonal action on S . Smooth Functions and Smooth Maps

The main reason for introducing smooth structures was to enable us to define smooth functions on manifolds and smooth maps between manifolds. In this chapter we carry out that project. We begin by defining smooth real-valued and vector-valued functions, and then generalize this to smooth maps between manifolds. We then focus our attention for a while on the special case of diffeomorphisms, whic...
